Aubretia Lantis was the grandmother of Cerise in the short story Inheritance. She was the youngest daughter of the family and when her mother died, she left her the pendant. She was in love with a younger Trader son, Howarth, who wanted to make his own fortune before marrying Aubretia. But he fooled her, took her money and left her penniless. The humiliation made her leave Bingtown. She married a man she didn't love, who needed someone to took care of his son and his home, just to get a roof over her head. She bore him a daughter, Cerise's mother.
