==How to use talk pages==
I hope this helps: every page has a "talk" page that can be used to discuss changes to the article before making them or suggesting ideas for improving the article etc. The talk page for user page (=the page with your user name) can be used to leave notes for that particular user. When someone leaves a comment on an article's talk page, it is wisest to reply on that same page so that everyone can follow the conversation easily. But if you want to reply to a comment on your OWN talk page (=this page, the talk page attached to your username) you can reply either here or on the the talk page of the user that left the comment. Just remember to sign your comments so we know who wrote what! : Yes, you can use the search box (on the left) for that, or just click the red link in question and then find the "what links here" tool from the toolbox under the search area. Instead of going through lots of pages and fixing links, we can also make "old traders" redirect to "old trader", just write <nowiki>#redirect [[link name here]]</nowiki>. I can see the problem with the traders and Civil, but what's wrong with Beebalm Chandler? I thought it was meant to refer to Molly's father? Hello! Hope this is the place to put this. On the projects bit I've said I'm working on animals and plants of the Rain Wilds Chronicles. I think we decided I'll get a list of plants and then we'll see how to organise it, so I'm still working on that. In relation to animals, should I just put them in among the current Realm of the Elderlings 'Animals' category? I don't think there's actually going to be that many! * fighting spammers. Last night, I upgraded the script to the latest version, hoping that there might have been a security fix included, but obviously there wasn't since the spamming continues. Mediawiki doesn't allow even the SysOp to delete members, only block them. I could do that manually at the database, but that is strongly advised against, as it might generate errors in the script. I'm currently looking into hacks and other tricks to make spamming more difficult - the sad news is that this will further increase the steps everyone has to take in order to edit articles. I'd love to keep this site easy to access and edit for everyone, but as things are, I must require registering etc.
* I've installed an extension that asks you to perform a simple math task (even I can do these, they're so easy ;D) whenever you're trying to add external links to an article. It also prompts new users to do the same when registering. I hope this will help, but please let me know if you have any problems using it!
* The MediaWiki script has been upgraded to the latest version - please let me know of any possible problems, I did see some minor errors during the installation. I'm also working on a skin that would "merge" the wiki with the rest of the site, making navigating back and forth easier, but completing that might take awhile.
* Oookay. First of all, my apologies that I still haven't updated the newest skin. I'll try to find time to do it soon. I did upgrade the script during the server move, and changed the license as we discussed. (Can't even remember where that happened, though.) I have some files saved for the cover galleries, I'll upload them after I've finished the skin. As I've tried to keep the articles free from references to the books, I'd prefer a timeline system, but I'm always willing to hear other opinions. Timelines might be more difficult build, I think we'd need to figure out some kind of "x years after Fitz was born" or "so-and-so's reign" system. I've started to wonder whether we should have a reference system after all. I didn't want one in the beginning, because my experience with book-ish wikis is that they are quite unneeded and make the article pages look messy. Minor characters would be easy to handle, because it would probably mean a very short note like "introduced in AA (chapter) 3, mentioned again in GF 15" but how should we handle references for characters that appear in 6 to 9 books? I feel that the time and energy would be better directed to just adding more things to the wiki in general. Of course this wouldn't be such a problem with new articles in the future as we could make those reference notes at the time of adding the article. Because I'm going to start expanding this wiki to cover other Hobb/Lindholm works as well soon, this would be a good time to decide whether we need/want references or not. --[[User:Mervi|Mervi]] 02:16, 21 January 2008 (EET)

For a long time I have planned to "open" this wiki to other Hobb stories besides the RotE ones. I figured that the best way the script allows us to do this, is to use little boxes that are really templates to mark all the articles depending on which fictional universe they belong. I have made some drafts for those and added the RotE one to the [[Fitz]] article for example - please let me know what you think. The idea is that the template can be altered at any point without having to go through hundreds of pages making the same change (of course the template has to be added to those pages first though! :D) So it doesn't matter if we've used the template already to mark articles and then want to change something in it. This is something I've meant to do for a long time. If anyone feels it should be different, feel free to suggest changes! My main concern is to keep this all non-profit, and I would like to allow copying, because it makes collaborations with other sites easier. I chose "No Derivative Works" because I don't see the point of someone copying everything and then adding stuff to it elsewhere - although I don't know how likely that scenario is. What do you all think? Should the derivative works be allowed?
