''Buckkeep'' is the coastal castle in the [[Buck]] Duchy near the mouth of the [[Buck River]] and home to the royal court of the [[Farseer]]s. The original wooden keep was captured and fortified by [[Taker]], and the following generations rebuilt it with stone and added more structures, creating layers of labyrinths within the walls.
Since Taker came, the fort has never been taken by outsiders.

Buckkeep is an ideal place for controlling trade. It has the best deep water port in the [[Six Duchies]], surrounded by good fishing grounds. Trade goods are transported via the [[Buck River]] from [[Farrow]] and [[Tilth]] to [[Buckkeep town]].

In the [[Gods' Runes Isles]] all people belong to a motherhouse. As the name implies the line runs through the women. A man can marry or have liasions with woman of another house but he always belongs to his mohterhouse and the children belong to the mother. Children are raised by their [[mother's brother]]. The women own the land and animals living there. The men earn respect by leading men at sea. The motherhouse has a [[Narcheska]] who is the leader, a [[Great Mother]] is the old [[Narcheska]] who rules only if there is no one else old enough. This ruling line is passed down mother to eldest daughter. A woman's body is buried in one of the unused fields set aside for this purpose. After seven years it is plowed and planted and the first harvest of that field is a feast. Almost anything will be done to have a womans body returned to it's motherhouse. There are strict runs over the menfolk that protect the motherhouse when men of other clans visit. Often debts are paid with boys.

Queen [[Kettricken]]'s Hunt happened during the [[Red Ship War]] and is a hunt of [[Forged]] ones in a dignified and sorrowful way, that was more of funeral for loved ones than hunt. It is lead by Queen [[Kettricken]] herself, even though Prince Regal opposes it very much. After the [[forged]] ones are all killed the bodies are brought back to [[Buckkeep]] with honors, washed and identifided by the townsfolk, and later burned. There is a great feast afterwards in memory of the dead. This event brings together the [[Six Duchies]] in united hatred of the [[Red Ship Raiders]].

The first Elderlings came into existence when primitive humans living in the [[Rain Wilds]] area began to mingle their society with that of the dragons‚Äô. Those who developed bonds with dragons began to adopt some of the larger beast‚Äôs physical and mental characteristics.

Elderlings became assistants to the dragons, aiding in the care of dragon eggs and ensuring the survival of the dragon species. In return, they developed extended lifespans, and were able to cultivate an advanced civilization amongst the Rain Wilds.

At some point in time, a catastrophic earthquake known as The Great Quake destroyed the civilization of the Elderlings, killing them and the dragons and sealing away the remaining unhatched serpents in their cocoons beneath the ruins of [[Frengong]].

The Elderlings built their cities as large communal houses, with chambers and halls linking rooms like a catacomb or labyrinth. They relied on [[jizdin]], a glowing jewel with unique properties, to provide light in their halls. Elderlings fostered the dragon eggs, constructing birthing halls where young dragons were hatched under the watchful eye of their parents and Elderling caretakers.

Little else is known about Elderling society, except that theirs was prosperous and highly advanced. They possessed a unique quality of magic with which they created their society. It is known they valued music, theatre and traditional arts.

== In the Farseer Trilogy ==

Elderlings are first introduced to the story in a tapestry in [[Fitz]]'s bedroom, which depicts King [[Wisdom]] greeting an Elderling. It is believed by the characters of the Farseer Trilogy that the Elderlings are the mammoth stone beasts that come to the aid of the [[Six Duchies]] against the [[Red Ship Raiders]]. These stone creatures, sleeping in a vast garden hidden in the [[Mountain Kingdom]], are in fact a revered form of Elderling art. Elderlings discovered that by carving dragon forms out of memory stone and filling them with memory, they would eventually take flight for a brief period of time. The practice was seen as a way to honour dragons.

== In the Liveship Traders ==

Long after The Great Quake killed the Elderlings and buried their cities, the remaining cocoons of unborn dragons were sawn open and shaped into wooden planks (‚Äú[[wizardwood]]‚Äù) by the [[Rain Wild Traders]]. These planks were used to construct ships that eventually became sentient and were resistant to the acidic quality of the [[Rain Wild River]], hence the existence of [[liveships]].

[[Malta]] and [[Selden Vestrit]] freed [[Tintaglia]], the last dragon left alive within her cocoon. Through their association with her, they began to change into Elderlings. It is reasonable to assume that Malta, along with her beau [[Reyn Khuprus]] and younger brother Selden, will revive the Elderling race and restore the dragons and Elderlings to their former glory.

The Bingtown delegation is a group of people from [[Bingtown]] who came to the [[Six Duchies]] to ask for Queen [[Kettricken]]'s help with once and for all defeating [[Chalced]]. This is because [[Tintaglia]] is required to take care of the new [[dragons]] and the humans are having trouble helping her when [[Chalced]] attacks them. Although [[Tintaglia]] sometimes help she cannot be away for long. As the [[dragon]]s are not thriving, much is be spent on the care of them, and [[Bingtown]] cannot deal with both that and a war. Many [[Rain Wilds]] objects are given to the [[Six Duchies]] to buy favor, including [[Flame-jewels]] of each Duchies correct color, [[Jizdin]], and [[elderling]] cloth. The delegation included [[Serilla]], a [[Bingtown]] trader, one of the [[Tattooed]], and [[Selden Vestrit]] an [[elderling]].

A [[Wit]] bond is when two beings, a person and an animal, join together. In the [[Old Blood]] community there are rules that [[wit-partner]]s not bond to closely. This is because in some circumstances the two are so tightly messed that when one dies the soul does not leave, but instead stays with the other. They almost become one soul. This is strictly forbidden and anyone who does such is banished from the communtiy. Bonds are supossed to be formed between two equals. Never are bonds allowed in children as it can cause the child to become less than human. The same is true for young animals. Also one of the parteners can also be dominate in the relationship to the detriment of both, usually the dominant is the human but there are cases known of dominant animals. The [[Piebald]]s often used there animals in such a way and were shund from the [[Old Blood]] communtiy because of it. There are much [[folklore]] and stories told by the [[Old Blood]]s that warn of the dangers.

[[Eda]] was the soft and weak land goddess, whose followers were blessed, so [[El]] cursed those that asked for his blessing. Soon there was not but one man left who remembered and cursed by [[El]], but he was an old and weak man so [[El]] did not bother with him. One day the man got caught out at sea in a storm and called to [[El]] for mercy, this angered [[El]] greatly, and cursed him for his weakness. The man later landed in the [[Six Duchies]], but everywhere he went bad things happened. Now in puppet shows he is the symbol the puppeteers use to show when something bad is about to happen. [[Chade]] Fallstar uses his looks to raise superstitions in people when he believes it necesary for the throne.

He stayed on after Ephron died with [[Kyle Haven]] as captian. While in port at [[Cress]], he fights a trained bear and losses. He was killed during the slave uprising on the [[Vivacia]].

The inside passage is the waterway inbetween [[Bingtown]] and [[Jamalia]]. Many pirates sail the waters so some captains go around. The water is known to change almost all the time and have squalls and sudden mists. There are not many places to land and haul water except for the [[pirate isles]]' settlements, to which no honest merchent goes. The water is very bad smelling and turns green with algae soon after it is hauled and coats wood ships quickly also. The outer isles were mountain ranges when dragons were around last.

Bendir Khuprus is the elder brother of [[Reyn Khuprus]]. Bendir and Reyn do not often get along. This is because Reyn is very concerned about not damaging the [[Rain Wilds]] objects and the [[elderling]] city, [[Frengong]] now under the human tree-based city of [[Trehaug]]. Where as Bendir only wants his family to be able to live well and not lose anyone in earthquakes or otherwise deathly things.
