== Appearance ==

Dark haired, dark skinned and dark eyed, Fitz is considered typically Farseer-like in his looks, baring a striking resemblance to his father. Although he does not think himself so, Fitz is also said to be handsome, even with his numerous scars. He is quite tall.

== Parentage and childhood ==

Fitz is the son of prince [[Chivalry (King-In-Waiting)|Chivalry]] [[Farseer]] and an unknown Mountain woman. [[Fitz's grandfather]] brought him to [[Verity]] when he was about six years old. Verity was in [[Moonseye]] at the time, so his [[Fitz's mother|mother]] probably lived nearby. As he was a bastard of the [[King-in-Waiting]], he was the reason for his father's abdication from the crown. Fitz doesn't remember his childhood before coming to the Farseers, or has decided to forget it, hence always being vague when it comes to his age. He actually has some memories, but denies remembering them and later puts them into a [[Stone-dragon]].

Fitz was given to [[Burrich]], Chivalry's right hand man, to raise.

== Early years ==

Fitz grew up in [[Buckkeep]]. He first lived in the [[Buckkeep stables]] with Burrich. His first companion and friend was a puppy, [[Nosy]], with whom he formed his first [[Wit-bond]]. With Nosy he roamed around in the [[Buckkeep town]] and was known there as [[Newboy]]. As Newboy, he came to know [[Molly]] Chandler.

When Burrich noticed their Wit-bond, Nosy was taken away from him and Fitz believed Burrich had killed him.

When he got King [[Shrewd]]'s attention, he got a room in the keep and formal training of a royal.

After the death of his father, lady [[Patience]] moved to Buckkeep to protect him and to see that his training was appropriate for a prince's son.

== Training ==

After Shrewd's recognition of him, Fitz swore an oath of loyalty to always serve the Farseer throne. Fitz started to take lessons in Buckkeep, learning around the hearths with various cousins and other royal children, and taking lessons in things such as reading and writing with [[Fedwren]]. He also got weapons training and a horse, [[Sooty]]. Around this time, he also started to take secret lessons with [[Chade]] to become a Buckkeep assassin, learning to be swift, competent and quiet by various childish games and pranks, such as hiding the cook's scissors and having to memorize objects he had only seen briefly or in passing, and his loyalty to Shrewd was tested to its limits.

It was at the beginning of Fitz's training that the [[Red Ship War]] started, and the need for more people to be trained with the [[Skill]] arose. After being tested, Fitz showed Skill ability and started his lessons with [[Galen]], the Skillmaster. Galen was said to hate Fitz as much as he loved his father, and was openly harsh with him in lessons until Burrich challenged him in front of the [[Witness Stones]], on the agreement that if he won it was the will of the gods that Fitz had the right to learn the Skill unharmed and despite his bastard blood.

He made friends with the King's [[Fool]], even if they couldn't publicly show it. The Fool said they were there to change the world.

== Actions during the Red Ship War ==
Poisoning the [[Forged]], serving aboard the warship, meeting [[Nighteyes]], dying, travelling to the [[Mountain Kingdom]] and back, [[Regal]], [[Kettricken]], [[Verity]] teaching the Skill, reasons leading to following the trail of Verity, [[Jhaampe]], [[Kettle]], the ruined Elderling city, fathering of [[Dutiful]], giving up on [[Molly]], killing all the bad guys. [[Elfbark]] should probably be mentioned here.

== Quiet years as Tom Badgerlock ==

Basically covered in the end of AQ and in the first few chapters of FE where he accounts his doings to the Fool. Travelling around with Nighteyes, visiting [[Cursed Shores]] and [[Bingtown]], finding the cabin, [[Starling]] visiting, [[Hap]], [[Jinna]]

== Return to Buckkeep ==
Acting as a servant to Lord Golden, going after Dutiful, the death of Nighteyes, problems with [[Jinna]], [[Hap]] and the [[Witted]].

== Journey to Aslevjal and beyound ==
Sailing to the [[Out Islands]], journeying above and belove the glacier, meeting the [[Pale Woman]], travelling through [[Skill-pillar|Skill-pillars]] several times, bringing the Fool back to life.

== Ever After ==
Taking the role of king in anything but name, winning back [[Molly]] etc.

Thanks for a great start, Seventh!

I'd like to hear opinions about whether we should write separate articles for Amber and Lord Golden or just add all the details about them to the main Fool article. There would of course still be pages for Amber and LG, but they would redirect here. The same dilemma is with Fitz... should Tom Badgerlock have a separate article, or just a division in the Fitz article? :: I actually ended up starting a page for [[Tom Badgerlock]] because re-reading FE for indexing the characters etc I realized that most of the other characters do not know the truth about TB, *and* for many years Fitz really tried to convince even himself that FitzChivalry was dead and he was now Tom Badgerlock. The character only starts to appear as a "ruse" when he comes back to Buckkeep and has to live among all those people who once knew Fitz. The Fool says in AQ (p. 335 UK paperback, chapter "Secrets") that his fathers were two cousins. In my copy of FE (also UK edition) he says they were brothers. I'm wondering if this is an error that might be corrected in other editions.

* fighting spammers. Last night, I upgraded the script to the latest version, hoping that there might have been a security fix included, but obviously there wasn't since the spamming continues. Mediawiki doesn't allow even the SysOp to delete members, only block them. I could do that manually at the database, but that is strongly advised against, as it might generate errors in the script. I'm currently looking into hacks and other tricks to make spamming more difficult - the sad news is that this will further increase the steps everyone has to take in order to edit articles. I'd love to keep this site easy to access and edit for everyone, but as things are, I must require registering etc.
* I've installed an extension that asks you to perform a simple math task (even I can do these, they're so easy ;D) whenever you're trying to add external links to an article. It also prompts new users to do the same when registering. I hope this will help, but please let me know if you have any problems using it!
* The MediaWiki script has been upgraded to the latest version - please let me know of any possible problems, I did see some minor errors during the installation. I'm also working on a skin that would "merge" the wiki with the rest of the site, making navigating back and forth easier, but completing that might take awhile.

I've started to wonder whether we should have a reference system after all. I didn't want one in the beginning, because my experience with book-ish wikis is that they are quite unneeded and make the article pages look messy. Minor characters would be easy to handle, because it would probably mean a very short note like "introduced in AA (chapter) 3, mentioned again in GF 15" but how should we handle references for characters that appear in 6 to 9 books? I feel that the time and energy would be better directed to just adding more things to the wiki in general. Of course this wouldn't be such a problem with new articles in the future as we could make those reference notes at the time of adding the article. Because I'm going to start expanding this wiki to cover other Hobb/Lindholm works as well soon, this would be a good time to decide whether we need/want references or not. --[[User:Mervi|Mervi]] 02:16, 21 January 2008 (EET)

For a long time I have planned to "open" this wiki to other Hobb stories besides the RotE ones. I figured that the best way the script allows us to do this, is to use little boxes that are really templates to mark all the articles depending on which fictional universe they belong. I have made some drafts for those and added the RotE one to the [[Fitz]] article for example - please let me know what you think. The idea is that the template can be altered at any point without having to go through hundreds of pages making the same change (of course the template has to be added to those pages first though! :D) So it doesn't matter if we've used the template already to mark articles and then want to change something in it. This is something I've meant to do for a long time. If anyone feels it should be different, feel free to suggest changes! My main concern is to keep this all non-profit, and I would like to allow copying, because it makes collaborations with other sites easier. I chose "No Derivative Works" because I don't see the point of someone copying everything and then adding stuff to it elsewhere - although I don't know how likely that scenario is. What do you all think? Should the derivative works be allowed?
