A woman who was bonded to a hind called [[Parela]]. Two years before [[Fitz]] and [[Nighteyes]] came to stay by [[Black Rolf]] to learn the ways of the [[Old Blood]], she slipped through the ice into [[Marple BondPond]]. She would have died, but instead clung to her companion's spirit, and ever after lived within her body. She didn't let Parela live the normal life of a deer, not permitting her to answer to calling mates and influencing even the way she moved. Delayna had had a husband. Black Rolf showed them to Fitz as an example of what not to do when either one of the them would eventually die. Privately Fitz wondered if the situation was such that only Parela and Delayna could understand it their decision completely.
