'''Maulkin''' is a male [[sea serpent]], leader of his tangle, also called ''Maulkin the Gold'' because of his golden false-eyes.
The only two members of his original tangle who stayed loyally with him were [[Shreever]] and [[Sessurea]], but he later gathered an enormous tangle of almost 200 serpents before trying to enter the [[Rain Wild River]]. Maulkin himself was one of the reduced number of sea serpents who survived that journey and were able to produce a cocoon. He emerged as the dragon [[Mercor]].
