Cat's Meat is a short story that takes place near the town of Cogsbay in the Buck Duchy. It describes the events of a few days during some unknown spring in the lives of Rosemary, her child Gillam and the cat Marmalade. Rosemary and Marmelade are the viewpoint characters. Chronologically the story precedes Assassin's Apprentice but is not prerequisite reading before starting the novels.
