Self-proclaimed Skill-marster originally from Farrow, trained by Solicity. Illegitimate son of Desire, probably the same age as Burrich. His father was rumoured to be one of Desire's personal servants. Favoured his half-brother Regal to the throne, was known to be "a Queen's man".

Galen was forced into undying loyalty to Chivalry in an accident; Chivalry intended only to make Galen like him, and never could undo the Skill command. That same command later made Galen blame Fitz for Chivalry's stepping down from the line of succession and eventual death. Galen bullied and nearly beat Fitz to death, giving him a Skill order to Die. Smithy, Burrich and the Fool saved Fitz; in response Burrich challenged and defeated him before the Witness Stones, forcing him to admit that Fitz was a Farseer and that Galen would teach him.

However, the beating from Burrich apparently warred with Chivalry's Skill command, and instead of teaching Fitz, Galen allowed him to physically participate in lessons but never again Skilled with him.

As Skill-master, Galen was an ascetic, harsh teacher. He bonded Regal's coterie practically by force, and instilled in them the same kind of Skill command to be loyal only to Regal.

Galen hated those with the Wit. He probably beat one Witted woman to death. She was bonded with a hawk and Galen was seen with talon marks. When the cousin of the girl accused him of the killing, he took it to the Witness Stones. Galen won and thus the case was closed.

He was bad with animals, dogs didn't like him and he overcontrolled horses. Dressed well, favoured wearing black. Had a chain with three gems in it, given him by Desire.
