Kennit

A pirate based in Divvytown. Captain of the Marietta. He wears a wizardwood charm carved in his own likeness on a strap around his wrist. He has built a strong crew of pirates, aided by his first mate, Sorcor and eventually Etta, a former prostitute from Divvytown that is in love with him.

Also known as the King of the Pirate Isles, Kennit is actually the son of Lucto Ludluck and bonded to the family's liveship, Paragon.

Early Years

Kennit was born to Lucto Ludluck and lived on Keyhole Island until Igrot the pirate raided it and took him captive. He was sexually abused and almost died multiple times, only staying alive because of Paragon. The liveship took some of Kennit's memories of that trauma, in order to help his family member. He was also forced to take a hatchet to Paragon's face and blind his liveship. After some time, Kennit poisoned the crew of Igrot's ship with some of the wizardwood that was hacked away from Paragon, and he killed Igrot.

Later, Kennit spent some time on a pirate ship that sailed out of Divvytown that was chosen specifically to for him to take over. He orchestrated a mutiny with his chosen mate, Sorcor. He became captain of the Marietta.

Ship of Magic

Obsessed with his legacy, his plans to become king of the Pirate Isles, and his ambition to overshadow Igrot in every way, Kennit goes to Others' Island for get his fortune told. The Other tells him, "You will succeed in your heart's desire." Thereafter, Kennit is obsessed with turning his dream into reality, and he starts chasing liveships to take over. Sorcor strikes a deal with him to chase slaveships as well, and they free a substantial amount of slaves and garner a good reputation for those deeds.

Kennit steals Vivacia away from the Vestrit Family and Captain Kyle. He takes Wintrow hostage to help Kennit keep Vivacia tractable, while he tries to forge a bond with the liveship. During their meeting, Kennit's wizardwood charm repeats a phrase that Igrot the pirate said to a young Kennit, forging a bond between Wintrow and Kennit in the pirate's eyes.

Mad Ship

Kennit maroons Vivacia's old captain, Kyle Haven, on Keyhole Island, where his Mother lives. He encourages Etta and Wintrow to get to know each other sexually, but they start a friendship, instead. They each come to believe fully in Kennit and his vision of a united Pirate Isles monarchy.

Ship of Destiny

During an attempt to free Vivacia from Kennit's grasp, Althea and Jek are captured and kept on board Vivacia. Kennit doses Althea with soporific drugs and rapes her, feels relief afterwards, and thinks he has gotten over his own abuse at the hands of Igrot. Despite the drugs, Althea remembers the event and tries to convince the crew, Vivacia, Wintrow, and Etta of Kennit's offenses.

In the meantime, Kennit has been utilizing Vivacia, and Bolt's, power over the serpents to retain power at sea over Jamaillia, who wants to put his rebellion down. Kennit eventually has Satrap Cosgo, accompanied by Malta Vestrit, acting as his negotiator, brought onboard Vivacia to sign into law the sovereign nation of the Pirate Isles. During the negotiation, Jamaillia's fleet attacks, the Satrap is captured back, and Kennit himself is taken in a failed rescue attempt.

During the fight that ensues afterwards, Kennit is fatally wounded protecting Cosgo, and dies in the arms of Paragon.
